There are two facilities in Independence, Iowa, which at least gives you a few options. We gave the nursing homes in this city a superb city grade of A-. Even with just a couple of nursing homes, this is still a great achievement. For comparison's sake, we also looked at the nursing homes in the nearby city of Waterloo, which received an impressive city grade in its own right. Nevertheless, we found the nursing homes in Independence to be rated even higher than the ones in Waterloo. This place's strong report card was highlighted by its nursing homes' inspection grades, which is addressed in the next paragraph.
To go along with its great overall grade, we awarded the nursing homes in Independence an A+ for our inspections rating. Arguably the most significant factor we look at in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes with better scores in this area typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. In addition, Independence also fared well in the category of health nursing with a grade of B+. Rounding out its quality report card, Independence earned a B+ for its long-term care rating and a B in the area of short-term care. We found this city to be very competent everywhere we looked.
