On top of being a strong facility overall, it also received A+ inspections recently. Its inspections were virtually perfect. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection scores. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these are relatively insignificant. This place was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This tells you that the government inspectors did not consider any of these deficiencies to pose an immediate risk to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Adding to its superb resume, this nursing home also excelled in our long-term care area. In fact, we gave it a grade of A in the area. Long-term care grades in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. One of the statistics we considered after nursing hours was vaccinations. This facility administered the pneumonia vaccination to 98.50746 percent of its residents. Vaccination is a reliable method to avoid negative health outcomes for the elderly population. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.24 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes.

This nursing home also received a very impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A-. Nursing grades are tied to nurse staffing levels. This particular nursing home provided 3.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at a few quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home excelled in these areas, with excellent scores for minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care a facility provides.

The next category we graded is short-term care. We gave this facility an acceptable score in this area, with a B-. While this is not as strong as many of this facility's other grades, it is nevertheless not a major area of concern. Our short-term care grades are believed to be most meaningful for individuals needing rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally utilizes more skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means not merely nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 42.5 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.
