There are two facilities in Carthage, Texas, which at least gives you a few options to choose from. This city received a city grade of C based on its overall nursing home quality. This is not a strong city grade. We somewhat surprisingly found this city grade is better than the grade we gave the nearby city of Longview. With Longview receiving a terrible grade, Carthage appears to be a better option. The best part of this city's profile is its nursing homes' exemplary inspection scores. Inspection grades are discussed in the following section.
While its overall rating was not elite, the nursing homes in Carthage performed spectacularly well in our inspection category. In fact, we awarded Carthage a grade of A for that category, which is one of our best scores. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection grades. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some end up being relatively insignificant. Carthage also received strong long-term care rating where it received a B in this area. Finally, the city received alarmingly low grades in our nursing and short-term care categories respectively.
