Facility Inspections
We want to point out that this facility really outperformed its overall score in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless government inspection report this year. As a result, we gave it one of our highest grades in that category with a grade of A-. These inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies shouldn't lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
Long-term Care Quality
This facilities next best area is long-term care. We gave it a grade of B- in this area. This is basically a middle of the road score in this area. Our long-term care grades are essential for people in need of personal care. After looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination statistics. We were pleased to learn that this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Finally, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality
One of this facility's better category grades was in the area of nursing care. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of C. Nursing grades are based in large part on quantity of nursing care available. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, despite not having the highest total nursing hours, this facility performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is often an indicator that a facility has sufficient quality controls in place.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we rated was short-term care, which was this facility's least impressive category. We gave it an F for this area, which is clearly concerning. Our short-term care scores are probably most important for residents in need of a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not merely nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Not surprisingly, we discovered that this facility provides far less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than a typical facility. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents who eventually returned home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
