Facility Inspections
On top of receiving a great overall rating, this facility fared even better in our inspections category which is based on the facility's recent inspections. In fact, we gave it an A for this area, which is one of our best scores. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places with better scores in this area most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This particular nursing home received 8 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a good inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. This turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this nursing home an A-. When calculating our nursing ratings, we factor in both staffing levels and the training levels of the nurses. This nursing home averages 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality
Turning to an additional strength for this nursing home, we gave them one of our more positive grades in our long-term care category as well, with a B. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia tragically can be a life or death ailment for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a facility doesn't roll the dice on this issue. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we looked at is short-term care, which turned out to be this nursing home's least impressive area. We awarded this nursing home a D in that category. Naturally, this score pulled down the nursing home's overall profile to some degree. Short-term care scores are based on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a vast spectrum of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Unfortunately, we learned that this facility offered less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most nursing homes. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients that returned home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 3.1 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
