Long-term Care Quality
On top of being a quality nursing home overall, this facility really excelled in our long-term care category, where it received an A. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in this category it typically means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. Once we finished looking at the amount of nursing care, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia can be a life threatening condition for nursing home patients so we prefer when a facility doesn't leave its residents vulnerable. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Facility Inspections
In addition, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned an A. Few nursing homes performed as well in this category. Our inspection scores are based on many items found on the a nursing home's recent government inspections. Places that excel in this area have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This nursing home was assessed 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This tells you that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies an immediate risk to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality
In addition, this facility also received favorable nursing grades this year. In fact, we awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B+. Our nursing score weighs many datapoints, however, the most important consideration is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as employing a system of turning patients even once per day.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning to the last category, this nursing home was given a decent short-term care score. Even though this is not quite as impressive as several of its other grades, this is truly not a terrible score. Our short-term care grades are based in part on the facility's quantity of skilled nursing services. This means a wide scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, in addition to other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last datapoint we looked at in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that just 3.4 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is actually below average.
