Short-term Care Quality
To go along with its strong overall score, we gave this nursing home a grade of A+ for its short-term care rating. Our short-term care scores are based on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a wide spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. This nursing home is above the national average both in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents. These are generally good indicators of quality short-term care. The last measure we looked at in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it fared as well as just about any facility in Illinois in this area with 66.6 percent of its residents returning home. With most nursing homes, fewer than half of their short-stay residents are able to return home.
Facility Inspections
Adding to this facility's impressive resume, we awarded this facility an A for inspections. Inspection scores are based on many pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent government inspections. Places that receive favorable grades in this category typically have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. While this place had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This means the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility also was awarded a high-end long-term care grade. Indeed, this ended up being this nursing home's third best category grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A-. Long-term care grades of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. After considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 95.679016 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients out of the hospital. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.28 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than many nursing homes.
Nurse Quality
In our last category, we gave this nursing home an A for its nursing score. This rounded out a very impressive profile. When computing a nursing home's nursing grade, we look at the number of hours nurses are seeing residents as well as the level of skill of those nurses. This nursing home boasts a really impressive 4.7 hours of nursing care per patient each day, of which a significant portion of those hours were provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly highly trained levels of nurses. In addition to looking at levels of nursing care, we also looked at a few quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these statistics as reliable measures of the caliber of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
