Inspection scores weigh a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better scores in this category typically have few of these severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Based on this, we had a generally positive view of this nursing home's inspections.

Another one of this nursing home's higher category scores was in the area of long-term care. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of B. It actually performed better than most nursing homes in this area. Facilities that receive this type of grade in this category tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure residents are kept in good health. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia tragically can be a deadly ailment for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a facility doesn't leave its residents vulnerable. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

This nursing home's nursing grade appears to be one of its better features. The facility received a grade of C in this category. There are a host of factors within this category. Most of these datapoints reflect levels of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. In fact, it performed well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these areas to be measures of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is as important as the number of hours of care offered.

The last area we assessed was short-term care, which turned out to be this nursing home's weakest category. We awarded this nursing home a D in this area.
