Short-term Care Quality
We also found that this facility excelled in our short-term care rating. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. Short-term care grades are typically used to grade a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. To provide good rehabilitation services, facilities generally must have higher levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This place is the gold standard when it comes to skilled nursing staffing. It provided approximately 1.5 times as many physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than a typical nursing home. This is what we look for when grading a nursing home in this category. The final measure we assessed in this category is the number of patients that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that it performed as well as just about any facility in Pennsylvania in this area with 76.2 percent of its residents returning home.
Facility Inspections
This facility has also received near flawless health inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. Our inspection grades account for a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better scores in this category typically have very few of these severe deficiencies. While this facility had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G through L. This tells you the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning our next category, this nursing home received first-rate long-term care grade. In fact, we gave it a grade of A in that category. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. After assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination data. It doesn't look like this nursing home provided information on its vaccination levels. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Nurse Quality
In the final category we rated, this nursing home received a very favorable grade of A in our nursing category. With this score, the facility wrapped up a straight A profile. There are several data points within this area. Many of the data points reflect levels of nurse staffing. This facility provides an incredible 5.9 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. Out of that total, many of the hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the most highly trained levels of nurses. On top of offering high levels of care, this place also excelled in the quality measures we assessed. It performed as well as any facility in the country in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
