Facility Inspections

Grade: A

This facility received a quality overall score as described above, but we especially would like to emphasize its excellent government inspections in recent years. We awarded them an A in this area. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating these inspection grades. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some are relatively minor. Although this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. A couple minor dings are not necessarily the end of the world.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing rating. In that category, we awarded this nursing home an B+. There are a variety of criteria within this area. Most of these datapoints reflect levels of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This nursing home also received a strong short-term care grade. Indeed, we gave it an above average score of B in this category. Short-term care grades are based on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a wide spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents who who were able to eventually return home from this facility. We found that 5 percent of this nursing home's residents were able to return home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Moving on to our fourth area, this nursing home was awarded an extremely favorable long-term care rating. This nursing home didn't turn out to have any weak spots. When facilities receive this kind of grade in this category it is a good sign for patient care and indicates that the place is well-staffed with nurses aids. After looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients out of the hospital. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
