While we graded this nursing home incredibly poorly overall, it received a very impressive inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with an A-. Our inspection ratings weigh several factors found on a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You should avoid nursing homes with too many deficiencies flagged. Fortunately, although this facility had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
Moving on to the category of long-term care, this nursing home was given just a D in that area. As it turns out, this ended up being one of its better features. Facilities that don't fare well in long-term care often don't provide as much nursing care and also may be struggling in some of the areas of routine personal care we assessed. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by nurses, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination records. We were a bit worried that this nursing home vaccinated a relatively low 88.43931 percent of its patients against pneumonia. To our surprise, this nursing home actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This was its best score in this category.

Short-term Care Quality
This facility's second worse category is short-term care, where it earned a grade of just D in that area. This is a relatively poor score. Short-term care scores are crucial for people requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires more skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a wide range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Considering its weak grade in this category, we were not stunned to find that this nursing home provided substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most nursing homes. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 5.4 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
Switching gears to our last area, this nursing home really didn't fare well in this area either. Due to a poor grade of F in nursing, this is about as terrible as it gets. We assessed the licensure of nurses employed by the facility, in addition to the number of hours those nurses worked with patients, in calculating our score in this category. This nursing home provided a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is an alarmingly low total. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing ratings. This nursing home performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care.
