Facility Inspections

Grade: B

Although this facility's overall grade was terrible, it performed well in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B for that area, which is one of our better scores. Arguably the most critical factor we consider in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. It is generally in your best interest to avoid nursing homes that have a long list of deficiencies. Fortunately, although this facility had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

This facility's second best category was nursing, but even there it received a grade of just D. This is still a well below average grade. Nursing grades are primarily tied to the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home offered just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient each day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing scores. This place performed well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these metrics to be indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Sadly, this facility's next highest category is long-term care. As it turns out, with a grade of D in this area, it still performed relatively poorly. For prospective patients looking for a permanent place to live rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are a key measure. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 98.705505 percent of its patients, which is higher than most nursing homes. Surprisingly, this facility also keeps its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0.04 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The next category we analyzed is short-term care. This facility received a bottom of the barrel grade of F in this area. Our short-term care grade is typically used to assess a facility's rehabilitation services. In order to provide high-end rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to offer better levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. Considering its score in this category, we were not surprised to find that this nursing home was well below average in terms of the number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its patients based on the figures we looked at. Frankly, this was what we expected to find. The final statistic we considered in this category is the percentage of patients that returned home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 3.8 percent of its residents returning home. This was quite a bit below the national average.
