Long-term Care Quality
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our long-term care grade. Long-term care scores in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. After looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients healthy. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Facility Inspections
This nursing home also excelled in the area of inspections. We awarded it an A for that category. Arguably the most important factor we consider in computing our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Facilities with better scores in this area typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This facility was hit with 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This tells you that the inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies to be an immediate threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality
In addition, this facility also received favorable nursing grades this year. In fact, we awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B+. The nursing score considers numerous factors. The most heavily weighted variable is the number of hours nurses spend with residents. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we analyzed was short-term care. We awarded this facility a decent score in this area, with a B-. Although this was not as strong as a few of this nursing home's other scores, it is still not a bad grade. Short-term care grades are often used to gauge a facility's rehabilitation services. To offer highly graded rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to have better levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this facility submitted information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients that ultimately were able to return home from this facility. We found that 5.5 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually well below average.
