Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the reasons this place ended up being a great nursing home is that it earned an A+ in our inspections category. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this place had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

We also gave this nursing home a grade of A- for our long-term care score. When facilities receive a score in this range in long-term care it typically means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. Once we finished looking at the amount of care provided by nurses, we next considered the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia sadly is often a life threatening condition for nursing home patients so we prefer when a nursing home doesn't take any chances. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The next area we analyzed was short-term care. This facility was given an impressive short-term care score, with a grade of B in this area. Our short-term care grade is commonly used to assess a facility's performance with rehabilitation In order to have highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to offer better levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final statistic we considered in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that 5 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

The last category we looked at is nursing. This nursing home was given an impressive nursing score this year, with a grade of B-. Even though this isn't as strong as many of its other category grades, this is nevertheless a decent rating for that area. Our nursing grade assesses the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We look at both the levels of skill of the nurses as well as the number of hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a somewhat alarming figure as it is well below average. Finally, our nursing grades also consider some quality-focused metrics. We especially like to look at the percent of patients who sustained pressure ulcers and major falls. These data points are measures of the quality of nursing care, since superior care tends to reduce these problems.
