Facility Inspections

Grade: A

The main reason this nursing home received a decent overall grade is its impeccable inspections in recent years. We gave them one of our higher scores in that category, with an A. This is a much better grade than the facility's overall score, which was decent but certainly not elite. Inspection ratings are tied to pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that excel in this area have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Another one of this facility's better category scores came in the category of long-term care. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of B. When facilities receive a grade in this range in long-term care it generally means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. After we finished looking at the volume of care provided by nurses, we turned to the facility's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 99.54023 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia can be a life threatening health condition for nursing home residents so we prefer when a nursing home does not take any chances. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Moving on to the area of short-term care, this nursing home received a grade of just D in that area. Short-term care scores are meaningful for patients requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates additional skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a vast range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. In this place's case, we found that it provided less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the typical facility. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents that ultimately were able to return home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.

This facility's worst category was nursing, which is the final area we analyzed. In this area, we gave this facility a grade of D. There are a host of subcategories within this area. Many of these subcategories reflect the quantity of nurse staffing. This place provided only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. Lastly, we also looked at some quality measures in determining our nursing ratings. This nursing home was above average in two of the major metrics we considered, with solid scores for minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. These areas are typically good measures of the quality of nursing care provided.
