Long-term Care Quality
We gave this nursing home one of our better grades in the area of long-term care, where it received an A+. This is a notably better grade than the facility's overall grade, which was decent but not elite. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care typically provide residents with better supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is significantly higher than the average nursing home. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
This nursing home also earned favorable government inspections in recent years. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B. Inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Does this page answer your questions about Green Meadow Haven?
This facility's next best category grade came in the area of nursing. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of C. Nursing grades are based in large part on levels of nurse staffing. This place provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we were hoping for. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. It performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be measures of the quality of nursing care. In some cases, the quality of nursing care is just as important as the quantity of hours of care offered.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we analyzed was short-term care. We awarded this facility a grade of C in that category. In computing these short-term care grades, we quantify the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our purpose is to devise a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this nursing home submitted data regarding its registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients that eventually returned home from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually quite a bit below average.
