Facility Inspections
While we were fairly low on this facility overall, we awarded it an A- for our inspections rating. This score is significantly more impressive than the nursing home's overall grade. Inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this facility had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing score. In that category, we awarded this facility an B-. Our nursing rating focuses on the facility's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of skill of the nurses and the amount of time spent with patients. This nursing home provides 3.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also weighed some quality-based metrics. This facility performed well in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. For example, in terms of the percentage of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, this nursing home performed better than the national average. This is generally a good indicator that a nursing home has sufficient quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented with better nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's next highest category turned out to be its short-term care score, where it was awarded a C. Our short-term care grades are probably more critical for folks needing a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not just nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other types of therapy. In this place's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than a typical facility. The hope is that this does not adversely impact the quality of care. The final datapoint we considered in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. It was respectable in this metric with 46.8 percent of its patients returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
The final area we graded is long-term care, in which this nursing home received a poor grade here also. Sadly, it received an abysmal F in this category, which is definitely a major concern. For long-term care residents, the facility's primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. On top of considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 98.283264 percent of its patients, which is higher than the majority of nursing homes. Surprisingly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.49 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
