Facility Inspections
This facility earned a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to emphasize its nearly flawless inspection reports in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. Inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this nursing home had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G through L. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's next most favorable category was short-term care. We gave it a B- in this category. This is basically a middle of the pack score in this area. Our short-term care grades are based on a facility's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a broad scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, in addition to other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last item we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents who eventually returned home from the facility. We found that just 5 percent of this facility's residents returned home. Unfortunately, this was below average.

Long-term Care Quality
We also gave this facility a solid grade in the area of long-term care, where we gave it a grade of B-. Our long-term care grade is generally used to judge a facility's performance as a traditional nursing home, as opposed to focusing more on the skilled nursing services offered by a skilled nursing facility. After looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination statistics. Frankly, we were a bit concerned this nursing home vaccinated 87.8125 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is quite a few points below what we were hoping for. Nevertheless, this place excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Nurse Quality
The last category we looked at was nursing, was this facility's least impressive category. We awarded this nursing home a D in this category. This is one of just a few weak points of a very solid report card. Our nursing rating weighs quite a few components, many of which are based on nursing hours. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. To go along with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this facility also did not perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing ratings. We looked at the percentage of patients sustaining major falls and pressure ulcers. This facility had more falls and pressure ulcers than the average nursing home. This may be a bad sign when you consider that many falls and bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, these statistics pulled down this facility's nursing grade quite a bit.
