The primary reason this nursing home received a decent overall score is its excellent inspections in recent years. We awarded them one of our better grades in that category, with an A. This is a much better score than the place's overall score, which was decent but certainly not elite. Arguably the most important factor we consider in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes with better grades in this category most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.

Additionally, we also would like to note that this facility was given positive long-term care marks this year. We gave them one of our better grades in this area, with a grade of B. This proved to be the facility's second best score. Facilities that receive this type of grade in long-term care typically provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure patients are kept in good health. In addition to assessing the well above average quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff at this facility, we also were pleased by the nursing home's vaccination record. For example, this nursing home gave the pneumonia vaccine to 98.49624 percent of its patients, which is what we like to see. The last statistic we looked at is its hospitalization rate. Here we found that this nursing home had 4.08 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. While this admittedly wasn't as favorable as some of its other scores in this category, this number may be skewed for some facilities due to some of the preexisting medical conditions of residents.

One of this facility's better category grades was in the area of nursing care. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of B-. We looked at the levels of nurses at the facility, in addition to the quantity of hours those nurses spent with residents, in calculating our rating in this category. This facility provided 4.2 hours of nursing care per resident daily, which was among the higher totals we found. Lastly, we also factored some quality-based metrics into our nursing grades. Specifically, we looked at the percent of residents who sustained pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these areas as good measures of the quality of nursing care, since better care tends to reduce these problems.

The last area we scored was short-term care. We gave this nursing home a grade of C in this category. In the area of short-term care, we endeavor to evaluate measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We analyze a facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. When we assessed this facility's nursing hours, we found it offered more care from registered nurses than most nursing homes. Lastly, we considered the number of residents who ultimately were able to return home from this facility. We found that it performed respectably in this area with 47.2 percent of its patients returning home.
