Facility Inspections

Grade: A

While this nursing home's overall grade was decent, it really fared well in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Arguably the most critical factor we consider in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher grades in this category typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

We also awarded this facility a favorable grade in long-term care. This facility earned a grade of B+ in this area, which is one of our better scores. Nursing homes that receive this kind of score in this category tend to provide consistent around the clock care to make sure residents are kept in good health. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 99.73475 percent of its residents. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients out of the hospital. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility was awarded its third most favorable category score in the category of short-term care. We gave this facility a grade of B- in this category, which is a reasonably acceptable score. In the area of short-term care, we strive to qualify indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Unfortunately, it does not look like this facility submitted registered nurse or physical therapist staffing data. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of residents who who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. We found that 5.6 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was actually quite a bit below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Switching gears to our final category, we awarded this facility a grade of D for nursing. This is the facility's weakest category score. Of course, this category hurt the facility's overall grade to some degree. Our nursing score looks at the facility's level of nurse staffing. We look at both the levels of licensure of the nurses as well as the quantity of hours spent with patients. This facility offered just 0.2 hours of nursing care per patient each day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these metrics to be good measures of the quality of nursing care.
