Facility Inspections

Grade: A

One of the reasons this place is a strong nursing home is that it earned a very impressive inspection grade. Inspections turned out to be its best category. In that category, we awarded it a grade of A. Inspection grades weigh a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better scores in this category tend to have very few of these severe deficiencies. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility was given an impressive long-term care score as well. We awarded it one of our higher grades in that category with a grade of B+. When facilities receive this type of score in long-term care it is typically a good sign for patient care and suggests that the place is well-staffed with nurses and aids. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 99.73404 percent of its residents, which is much higher than the majority of nursing homes. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.24 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Turning to the next category, this facility also earned a score of B for its short-term care rating. This is an above average grade in this area. Short-term care scores are based in part on a facility's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a vast range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents that ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that it fared as well as just about any facility in the country with 58.7 percent of its patients returning home. Most facilities are below 50 percent in this statistic.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

Turning to our final area, this nursing home was given a respectable nursing grade of C. When computing our nursing grades, we look at both staffing levels and the skill levels of the nurses. This facility provided just 2.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Finally, we look at quality-based statistics, such as the percent of residents who sustained pressure ulcers and major falls. Sometimes these data points are decent indicators of the quality of nursing care.
