Facility Inspections
Although we did not rate this nursing home favorably overall, we want to point out its relatively solid inspections in recent years. We gave it a B in this area, which was much better than its overall score. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection scores. One key factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these end up being quite insignificant. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
We also gave this nursing home a respectable score in the area of long-term care, where we awarded it a B-. In determining our long-term care ratings, we size up the assistance with daily living offered to the nursing home's patients. One of the statistics we considered on top of nurse's aid hours is vaccines. Frankly, we were a bit concerned this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to just 88.88889 percent of its patients. On a more positive note, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality
We also wanted to point out that this nursing home received an F for its nursing grade. There are many datapoints within this area. Most of the subcategories relate to levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home averaged a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This figure is far below average. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing grades. This facility performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these statistics to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we analyzed is short-term care. We gave it an abysmal F for this category, which is an abysmal score. In the category of short-term care, we endeavor to evaluate measures of a facility's rehabilitation services. We look at the facility's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and various therapists. As you might expect, we discovered that this nursing home offers substantially less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than the average facility. The last statistic we assessed in this area is the number of patients that eventually returned home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 4 percent of its patients returning home.
