Registered Staff Hours
Long-term Care Quality
We gave this facility an A- for our long-term care rating. Long-term care ratings in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. After assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is significantly higher than most nursing homes. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Facility Inspections
Inspections is another area where this nursing home excelled. In fact, we gave this nursing home an B+ for our inspections rating. Inspection grades weigh several factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better scores in this area tend to have very few of these severe deficiencies. Although this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspections are rare in the industry.

Nurse Quality
We also gave this nursing home a decent score in the category of nursing care, with a grade of B-. Nursing grades are based largely on nurse staffing levels. This particular nursing home provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This figure is significantly below average. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics. While this nursing home got dinged a bit for nursing hours, it excelled in a few of these quality-based measures. With less than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared remarkably well in this subcategory. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a policy of moving residents more frequently.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we rated was short-term care. This facility was given a C in the area. Our short-term care ratings are important for patients requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires additional highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means a vast scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. It does not appear that this facility submitted data regarding its registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. The last statistic we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
