Facility Inspections
In addition to being a respectable nursing home overall, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned an A-. Few facilities performed better in this area. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining our inspection scores. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these end up being quite insignificant. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies shouldn't lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
Long-term Care Quality
Another one of this nursing home's more impressive category scores was in the category of long-term care. In that area, we gave this nursing home a B. It actually performed better than most facilities in this category. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is higher than the average nursing home. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality
This nursing home's next best category was nursing. We awarded it a grade of B- in this category. This is basically a middle of the road grade in this category. We assessed the skill-level of nurses employed by the nursing home, in addition to the number of hours those nurses were with patients, in calculating our grade in this area. This nursing home provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This figure is significantly below average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place actually excelled in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. It scored well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
Short-term Care Quality
The final category we graded is short-term care. Sadly, it received an F in this area, which is a bottom of the barrel score. This is obviously a significant disappointment. Our short-term care grade is often employed to judge a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. To have good rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to feature better levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. Considering its poor score in this category, we weren't shocked to discover that this place offered far fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The last datapoint we assessed in this category is the number of patients who returned home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 2.9 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below average.
