Facility Inspections

Grade: B

Although this place's overall score was terrible, it performed well in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B for that area, which is one of our better scores. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection grades. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some end up being quite minor. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Turning to the area of nursing care, this facility received a grade of just D in this category. Unfortunately, this ended up being one of its better grades. Nursing ratings are largely based on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This place offered just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing ratings. This nursing home performed well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

We awarded this facility a grade of just D for our long-term care grade. This is not one of our better scores. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. As it turns out, this nursing home administered the vaccine to just 57.044674 percent of its patients, which is several points lower than we expected. To our surprise, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. This is its best score in this category.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The last category we graded is short-term care. Unfortunately, we gave it an F for this category, which is a bottom of the barrel grade. With our short-term care rating, we strive to craft a valuable barometer for rehabilitation services. In this process, we analyze the facility's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. With a score of this caliber in this category, we were not stunned to learn that this place was well below average in many staffing figures we looked at. In fact, it offered substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most facilities. The last datapoint we looked at in this area is the number of residents that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 4.2 percent of its residents returning home. Unfortunately, this was quite a bit below the national average.
