Nurse Quality
On top of being a first rate facility overall, this nursing home also excelled in the area of nursing, where it received an A+. Few nursing homes performed better in this category. Our nursing grade looks at the facility's nurse staffing levels. We weigh both the levels of licensure of the nurses and the quantity of hours spent with patients. This place provided 4.8 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis, which is among the higher totals in the country. A significant percentage of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the more skilled levels of nurses. We are very impressed by these figures. On top of offering high levels of nursing care, this place also excelled in the quality measures we looked at. By way of illustration, it performed as well as any facility in the state in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We view these datapoints as reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care being provided.
Short-term Care Quality
This first-rate nursing home also fared very well in the area of short-term care, where we gave it a score of A+. Very few facilities fared better in this area. Our short-term care grade is commonly employed to gauge a nursing home's rehabilitation services. In order to offer highly scored rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must have higher levels of skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. This nursing home excelled in the two key staffing areas we looked at. In fact, it provided more care from physical therapists and registered nurses than the average facility. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes with 60.2 percent of its patients returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most nursing homes.
Facility Inspections
In addition, this nursing home also received excellent government inspections in recent years. We awarded it one of our best grades in that area, with an A. Inspection ratings are based on pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that excel in this category typically have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Fortunately, although this facility had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G through L. This means that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
The final area we scored is long-term care, where this nursing home received a grade of A. This rounded out a first-rate report card. Few facilities received an A- or better in every category. Facilities that receive this kind of score in long-term care typically provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure patients are kept in good health. In addition to providing well above average levels of nursing care and other staffing, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 98.66221 percent of its residents. This figure is also significantly higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. This combination proved to be successful as this nursing home was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.85 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
