Facility Inspections
This nursing home earned a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to emphasize its nearly flawless health inspection reports in recent years. We gave them an impressive grade of A in this category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some end up being quite minor. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
Additionally, we gave this facility a B in our short-term care category. This happens to be one of our more favorable grades. Our short-term care ratings are considered to be most important for patients requiring rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation usually utilizes additional skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not only nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Unfortunately, it does not appear that this facility submitted data regarding its registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.7 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

This nursing home's next most favorable area is long-term care. We gave it a B- in this area. This is basically a slightly below average grade in this area. Long-term care scores are pivotal for individuals in need of non-healthcare services such as personal care. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination statistics. We were pleased to discover that this facility vaccinated 99.76798 percent of its residents for pneumonia. This facility was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Nurse Quality
The next category we rated is nursing. For that category, we awarded this nursing home a C. Our nursing rating focuses on the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We look at both the levels of licensure of those nurses as well as the quantity of hours spent with residents. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we like to look at quality-based statistics, such as the percentage of residents who sustained pressure ulcers and major falls. Sometimes these statistics are indicators of the quality of nursing care.
