Facility Inspections
On top of receiving a great overall rating, this nursing home excelled in inspections, which is based on the facility's recent inspection reports. In fact, we gave it an A in this category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing our inspection grades. One key factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some can be relatively minor. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor dings aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
Adding to its fine resume, this nursing home also received a superb short-term care grade, with a score of A-. Short-term care grades are often used to assess a facility's rehabilitation services. In order to offer highly rated rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to offer better levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. One of this nursing home's strength is that it offers more hours of care from registered nurses to its residents. Finally, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return home from this nursing home. This place outperformed most facilities in this area with 52.2 percent of its patients returning home. This is a higher rate than most nursing homes.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home also received a strong nursing score. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B+ in this area. We assessed the skill-level of nurses working for the nursing home, in addition to the quantity of time those nurses worked with residents, in determining our rating in this area. This nursing home averages 2.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as employing a protocol of moving patients even once per day.
Long-term Care Quality
The next category we assessed is long-term care. We gave this facility one of our better scores in that category, with a B. Even though this was not on par with many of its other grades, it is nevertheless a fine score. When facilities receive this kind of grade in this category it is a good sign for patient care and suggests that the place is well-staffed with nurses aids. After assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 99.84227 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients healthy. Lastly, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. With 2 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this place is just about middle of the road in this area.
