With five nursing homes in the city, there are only a few choices in Chico, California. These nursing homes did not really excel from a quality point of view either. The city was given a city grade of C, which is not one of our stronger scores at the city level. Nationally, most cities received a higher score than this city. One of the highlights of this place's report card is its nursing homes' strong short-term care scores, which we will address in the next paragraph.
While this city's nursing homes received a middle of the road overall grade, its short-term care grade is notably higher than its overall grade. Chico received one of our higher scores in that area with a grade of B. In the area of short-term care, we seek to qualify indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We assess a facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. This city's next highest grade came in our nursing category, where Chico received a B-. Finally, we awarded the city grades of C and D for our long-term care and inspections categories respectively. Even with an otherwise excellent profile, an inspections rating in this range is still concerning.
