With a population of 14,591 people, Elkins, West Virginia is a small city. There are only 3 nursing homes in the city, which does not offer you too many options to choose from. With a city grade of B, this city's nursing homes turned out to be solid options. By way of comparison, we awarded the facilities in the nearby city of Clarksburg a city grade of C, which is much lower grade. Naturally, we found the facilities in Elkins to be in a totally different league than the ones in Clarksburg. This city's nursing homes were stronger in some categories than others, but it didn't have any weak links in any of our major areas discussed below. Perhaps the most important factor we consider in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher grades in this area most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death.
