With a population of 14,591 people, Elkins, West Virginia is a small city. There are only 3 nursing homes in the city, which does not offer you too many options to choose from. With a city grade of B-, you should be able to find a respectable nursing home in the city. By way of comparison, we awarded the facilities in the nearby city of Clarksburg a city grade of D, which is a well below average score. While neither city received a glowing review, we found the facilities in Elkins to be a better option. This city is stronger in some categories than others, but it didn't have terrible grades in any of our major areas discussed below. Despite receiving a fairly ordinary overall grade, this city performed extremely well in the area of inspections. In fact, some of its facilities received almost flawless inspection reports this year. Consequently, Elkins received one of our highest scores in that area with an A-. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection grades. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some can be quite insignificant. The city also fared well in the area of long-term care with a B. In the other categories we looked at, this place were awarded a C in our nursing category and a C in short-term care.
