Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

Although we gave this nursing home a terrible overall score, we gave it a grade of B- for our nursing rating. In determining a facility's nursing score, we consider the quantity of hours nurses are caring for residents and the level of skill of the nurses. This nursing home averages just 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics. While this place got dinged a bit for its nursing hours, it actually excelled in some of these quality-based metrics. With fewer than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed well in this subcategory. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as having a policy of moving patients at least once a day.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

We awarded this nursing home just a D for our long-term care grade and that actually ended up being its next highest category. For patients in need of a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care is an important category. On top of considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 98.69281 percent of its patients. Surprisingly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.

Facility Inspections

Grade: F

We also wanted to draw your attention to this nursing home's inspection grades where it received an F. This generally means we found some red flags on the inspection reports. When a place has this bad of an inspection score, you should expect some severe deficiencies on its inspection report. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to patient safety. This particular facility was assessed 2 deficiencies by government inspectors. The only positive thing we found is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that suggest that they posed a risk to resident health or safety. Lastly, we want to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home received significant government fines totaling over $100,000. This often indicates that a nursing home's bad performance has been an issue for multiple years.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The last category we analyzed is short-term care. Unfortunately, we gave it an F for this category, which is a rock bottom grade. Our short-term care scores are based on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a vast range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, not to mention other forms of therapy. With a grade this poor in this area, we were not shocked to learn that this nursing home was well below average in multiple staffing areas we looked at. In fact, it offered far fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. The final item we considered in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 3.6 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar metrics sunk this facility's short-term care grade.
