To go along with its relatively modest overall score, we gave this nursing home an A+ for its inspection grade. This is far more impressive than the facility's overall rating. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating these inspection scores. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these are quite minor. On top of considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is higher than the majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

As it turns out, this nursing home only received a grade of D for its short-term care score, which is well below average in this category. In the category of short-term care, we try to evaluate measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Most of the criteria are tied to nurse staffing. This place provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This number is well below average. On top of receiving below average marks for nursing hours, this place was a bit less impressive in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of residents experiencing pressure ulcers and found that this place was at roughly 150 percent of the national average in this statistic. This is likely a bad sign when you consider that so many pressure ulcers are preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, this statistic pulled down this nursing home's nursing grade significantly.
