Short-term Care Quality
Although we gave this facility a terrible overall score, we gave it a B- for short-term care. In determining our short-term care ratings, we analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to create a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. We were surprised to find that this facility was below average in the two key staffing areas we assessed. The facility provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. It is important to determine whether this is adversely impacting the quality of care. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.4 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.
Facility Inspections
Interestingly, this facility's terrible overall grade can't really be attributed to its government inspection reports. We awarded it a grade of C for our inspections category. Inspection ratings weigh several factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. This facility was hit with 5 deficiencies on its government inspection report, but none were in any of the categories labeled G through L. This tells you the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies to be an imminent risk to resident safety or health. Lastly, this facility was flagged by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We prefer to avoid facilities with this designation. Please do your best to find an alternative nursing home.

Long-term Care Quality
We were also stunned to discover that this facility earned a somewhat respectable long-term care rating in our assessment. We awarded it a grade of C in this area. With our long-term care score, we assess the sheer quantity of care offered by a facility, along with a series of qualitative measures. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 98.11321 percent of its residents, which is more than the majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Nurse Quality
Turning to our final category, this facility didn't fare very well in this area either. With a poor grade of F in nursing, this is about as as uninspiring as it gets. Our nursing rating focuses on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We weigh both the levels of skill of those nurses and the number of hours spent with patients. With a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis, this place's nurse staffing levels were significantly below the national average. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing ratings. This facility fared well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
