Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

In addition to its strong overall score, we awarded this facility an A- for our long-term care grade. Nursing homes that do well in this category tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. After considering the volume of nursing care, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia sadly can be a life or death health condition for nursing home residents so we prefer when a facility doesn't roll the dice on this issue. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing rating. In that area, we gave this facility an B+. Our nursing grade looks at the facility's nurse staffing levels. We consider both the levels of skill of the nurses as well as the quantity of hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This nursing home was awarded a strong short-term care score as well. We gave it one of our better scores in that area with a score of B. Our short-term care grade is generally employed to score a nursing home's rehabilitation services In order to offer high-end rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to offer better levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. It does not appear that this nursing home submitted registered nurse or physical therapist staffing data. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.7 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

Moving on to our inspection category, it appears this facility has received quality inspections in recent years as well. We gave it a B- in this category. These inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.
