While we didn't give this nursing home a good overall grade, we actually gave it a strong grade in the category of inspections, where it received a B+. Inspection grades account for several factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You should avoid nursing homes with a list of severe deficiencies flagged. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

Additionally, we also wanted to point out that this facility was awarded strong short-term care marks this year. We gave them one of our more impressive grades in this area, with a grade of B. This turned out to be the facility's second strongest grade. Our short-term care ratings are based on the nursing home's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a vast scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. Finally, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This proved to be a real strength for this facility. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of facilities in the country with 68.9 percent of its residents returning home.

We also wanted to point out that this nursing home received an F for its nursing grade. Nursing grades are largely tied to a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 3.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which is below the national average. To go along with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this nursing home also didn't perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of residents sustaining pressure ulcers and major falls. This place had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average facility. This may be a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores and falls are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. These metrics pulled down this nursing home's nursing grade significantly.

The next area we looked at was long-term care. This facility was given a very poor grade of F in that category. For residents seeking a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care is a very important category. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination statistics. We were optimistic to discover that this facility vaccinated 97.849464 percent of its patients for pneumonia. To our surprise, this place was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.49 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
