To go along with its decent overall grade, we gave this nursing home a grade of A- for its inspection grade. This is far more impressive than the facility's overall score. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher grades in this category typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Based on this, we had positive view of this facility's inspections.

The next most favorable category we awarded this nursing home in any category came in the area of short-term care, where we gave it a B-. Short-term care grades are based on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a broad scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, this nursing home was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the metrics we assessed. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 6.1 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.

This facility was given its next best category grade in the area of long-term care. We awarded this nursing home a B- in this area, which is a respectable score. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. One of the statistics we considered on top of nurse's aid hours is vaccines. Thankfully, this facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. This place was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Switching gears to the final category, we gave this facility a grade of D for the area of nursing. This was the facility's least impressive category score. When calculating our nursing scores, we analyze both staffing levels and the training levels of those nurses. This nursing home provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. This nursing home performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these data points to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
