Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a C for our inspections rating. In fact, the facility received very impressive inspection report this year. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection scores. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some end up being quite insignificant. This facility had 6 deficiencies on its government inspection report, but we were relieved to find that none were in categories G through L. This means CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies to pose an imminent danger to patient health or safety. Finally, they also received 18 substantiated complaints in recent years. This is certainly not a great sign.

One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing score. In that category, we gave this facility an C. In calculating our nursing scores, we weigh both nursing hours and the levels of licensure of the nurses. According to its staffing data, this nursing home provided an average of 3.9 hours of nursing care per patient each day, which was above the national average. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in some quality-focused statistics. Specifically, we look at the percent of residents who sustained pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these statistics as good measures of the quality of nursing care, since better care tends to reduce these problems.

We gave this facility a grade of just D for our short-term care score. This is not a very good score. In the area of short-term care, we attempt to assess indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We look at a facility's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Unfortunately, we learned that this place provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. This definitely was not a strength for this nursing home. We found that just 35 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. At most facilities, around half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Oct 18: DNov 18: DDec 18: DJan 19: DFeb 19: DMay 19: DJun 19: DJul 19: DAug 19: DSep 19: DJan 20: FMar 20: FApr 20: DMay 20: DJun 20: DJul 20: DAug 20: D
Historical

The last area we scored was long-term care, which turned out to be a weak link for this facility. We gave this nursing home a D for our long-term care category. Long-term care scores in this range generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids, as well as the levels of routine medical care available. Although we determined this nursing home had a favorable amount of nursing hours provided by nurses aids and other nursing staff, we found its vaccination rate to be somewhat lower than we expected. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to just 65.31165 percent of its residents. This is a statistic we would love to see this nursing home improve. Finally, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. We found that this facility fared poorly with 3.04 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, this figure is nearly twice the national average.
