Facility Inspections
Although we did not have many favorable things to say about this nursing home's overall score, it did receive a respectable government inspection report this year. As a result, it received a decent score in that category with a B-. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection ratings. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some end up being relatively insignificant. This nursing home received 8 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be major deficiencies. This indicates that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies to create an immediate threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's long-term care score is one of its better scores. The nursing home was awarded a grade of C in this category. For long-term care residents, the primary objective is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. Once we concluded our assessment of the volume of nursing care, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination record. We were pleased to learn that this facility vaccinated 99.35065 percent of its patients against pneumonia. This nursing home was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality
Turning to the area of nursing care, this facility received a grade of just D in this category. We assessed the qualifications of nurses working for the facility, in addition to the number of hours those nurses spent with residents, in computing our score in this category. This facility averaged just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing scores. This nursing home performed well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we analyzed is short-term care, was this facility's weakest category. We awarded this nursing home a grade of D in that area. Short-term care grades are typically employed to measure a facility's performance with rehabilitation. To provide good rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to feature higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. With a grade of this caliber for this category, we were not stunned to discover that this facility was well below average in several staffing metrics we looked at. The facility supplied substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The final measure we considered in this area is the percentage of residents that eventually returned home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 4.1 percent of its residents returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below average.
