Registered Staff Hours
Short-term Care Quality
Although this place's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it didn't perform terribly in our short-term care rating. We gave it a B- for that category, which isn't bad. However, this wasn't enough to spare its overall profile. In computing these short-term care scores, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our purpose is to formulate a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Unfortunately, we found that this facility provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The key is determining what bearing this had on quality of care. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.8 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home really excelled in our nursing category, where it earned an C. Few facilities fared better in this category. Our nursing score is mostly tied to a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident daily, which is well below average. Finally, despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours per resident, this facility actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is usually a good indicator that a place has sufficient quality controls in place.

Facility Inspections
Unfortunately, with a grade of D in the inspection category, this facility performed relatively poorly in that area. Inspection grades account for a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. You should be most cautious when considering a facility with severe deficiencies on its inspection reports. This particular facility had 3 deficiencies by CMS. The only favorable thing we found is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that suggest that they posed a threat to resident safety or health. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.
Long-term Care Quality
Moving on to our final category, this nursing home did not perform well in this category either. Due to a poor grade of F in long-term care, this is about as bad as it gets. For long-term care residents, the primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. One of the data points we considered in addition to nurse's aid hours is vaccines. Fortunately, this facility administered the pneumonia vaccination to 98.27586 percent of its patients. Surprisingly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
