This nursing home excelled in the area of long-term care, where it received an A. Few nursing homes performed better in this category. If it wasn't for this grade, this nursing home's overall grade would have been lower. Nursing homes that excel in long-term care typically provide residents with closer supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 98.21429 percent of its patients, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia tragically can be a dangerous condition for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a facility does not leave this to chance. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

In addition, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received an A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this category. Arguably the most significant factor we consider in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this category typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. While this place had a few minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

This nursing home's short-term care score ended up being one of its most alarming scores. Sadly, the nursing home was given an F in this category. Our short-term care scores are thought to be more meaningful for people in need of rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally requires additional highly-skilled nursing. This means not only nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, this nursing home was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. This definitely wasn't a strength for this nursing home. We found that just 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. At most facilities, around half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.

Switching gears to the fourth area, this facility didn't fare very well. With a rock bottom grade of F in nursing, this is this facility's worst grade. The nursing rating assesses quite a few data points, however, the most important one is the quantity of nurse hours spent with patients. This nursing home offered only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. In addition to its subpar nursing hours, this facility also earned suboptimal scores in many of the quality-based metrics we looked at in computing our nursing grades. We found that a higher percentage of this nursing home's residents experienced falls which led to major injury. We would argue that many falls could be prevented with better nursing care. This statistic contributed to this nursing home receiving a poor nursing grade.
