Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

Although this facility's overall score was terrible, it actually didn't perform as badly in the area of nursing. We gave it a B- for that category. There are many subcategories within this category. Most of the criteria relate to nurse staffing. This particular facility provided just 0 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This figure is significantly below average. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures. While this facility got docked a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in some of these quality measures. With less than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it did remarkably well in this metric. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as having a protocol of turning residents more frequently.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Unfortunately, this nursing home's next most respectable category was short-term care. As it turns out, with a D in this area, it still performed somewhat badly. In calculating our short-term care scores, we assess a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. This score is typically a useful assessment of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. Considering its score in this area, we weren't stunned to discover that this place is well below average in terms of its number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients based on the metrics we assessed. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents that returned home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 2.8 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The third category we analyzed was long-term care. This nursing home's was given a rock-bottom long-term care score where it was given a lowly F. Facilities that do not score well in long-term care often don't provide as much nursing care and also may be struggling in a few of the areas of routine medical care we assessed. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. We discovered that this facility administered the vaccine to only 89.655174 percent of its residents, which is somewhat alarming. To our surprise, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than most nursing homes. This was its best score in this category.

Facility Inspections

Grade: F

In the final category of inspections, this nursing home had an abysmal showing. Sadly, it received an F in our inspection category. This is our most heavily weighted category in our overall grading system. For nursing homes with poor inspection grades, you should scrutinize any severe deficiencies found on their inspection reports. This nursing home had a category G through L deficiency, which are among the more serious deficiencies. These categories indicate that the deficiencies uncovered by the government inspectors had the potential to create actual harm to patients. Another red flag is that CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.
