Nurse Quality
We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility excelled in our nursing rating. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. When computing our nursing grades, we analyze both nursing hours and the training levels of the nurses. This place provides an incredible 4.7 hours of nursing care per resident daily. Very few nursing homes provide this quantity of nursing care to their patients. Out of this total, many of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the most highly highly trained levels of nurses. On top of providing high levels of care, this facility also excelled in several of the quality measures we assessed. With less than 5 percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared as well as any place the nation in this category. This is often a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls. Many pressure ulcers could be avoided by offering better nursing care and having a system of moving residents even once per day.
Long-term Care Quality
To complement its top-shelf performance in other areas, we gave this facility a score of A for our long-term care rating. In a long-term care environment, the primary objective is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. This nursing home's vaccination data weren't as favorable some of the other statistics in this area, such as its number of nursing hours per resident. It provided the pneumonia vaccine to just 41.928722 percent of its residents. We would like to see some improvement herein this statistic next year. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we like to see, at least this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.8 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Short-term Care Quality
Building on its first-rate profile, this facility also was given a dominant short-term care score, with a score of A. Our short-term care grades are thought to be more meaningful for those in need of rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally utilizes more highly-skilled nursing services. This means not only nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. This nursing home excelled in the two key staffing areas we looked at. It provided more care from registered nurses and physical therapists than the typical facility. This is typically a great sign. Lastly, we considered the number of patients who returned to the community from this facility. We found that it performed decently , with 48.7 percent of its residents able to return home.
Facility Inspections
Adding to its impressive category grades, this nursing home also excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned a score of A-. This wrapped up a straight A report card for this facility. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection grades. One key factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some end up being quite insignificant. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
