Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

We also found that this facility excelled in our short-term care rating. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. Short-term care grades are generally employed to grade a facility's performance with rehabilitation. In order to provide good rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to feature higher levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other licensed professionals. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents that ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 6.1 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

Adding to an already impressive profile, this facility also received virtually flawless health inspections in recent years. As a result, we awarded it an A+ inspection grade. Inspection ratings are tied to many datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent government inspections. Places that score well in this area typically have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This place was hit with 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This means that the inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies to cause an immediate risk to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This facility also was dominant in the area of long-term care, where we awarded it a grade of A. Not many facilities received a better grade in this area. Facilities that receive this kind of score in long-term care typically provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure residents are well cared for. After we finished looking at the volume of care provided by nurses, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia can be a dangerous condition for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a nursing home doesn't roll the dice on this issue. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

Moving on to our next area, this facility was awarded an excellent nursing score. In fact, we gave it a grade of A- in this area, resulting in this facility receiving straight A's. In computing a facility's nursing rating, we assess the quantity of hours nurses are with patients and the level of skill of the nurses. This particular nursing home provided 0.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
