Nurse Quality

Grade: A

We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility received an impressive grade of A in our nursing category. In calculating a facility's nursing grade, we consider the amount of time nurses are with residents as well as the level of licensure of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a policy of moving a patient at least once a day.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

In addition, this facility also earned a nearly flawless inspection report. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with an A-. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection scores. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these end up being quite minor. This particular nursing home received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Moving on our next area, this nursing home received a top-shelf long-term care grade. In fact, we gave it a score of A- in this category. Facilities that excel in this category tend to provide residents with more supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. After assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is far higher than most nursing homes. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Switching gears to the final category, this facility also performed well in the short-term care category. We awarded it a grade of A- in that area. This completed a straight A profile. In computing our short-term care grades, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our purpose is to formulate a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
