Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

To go along with a strong overall score, we gave this place a grade of A+ for our inspection category. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Facilities with better scores in this category typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Remember that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Among its many impressive scores, this facility was given a strong short-term care grade. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A in that category. Short-term care grades are often used to grade a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. In order to provide highly rated rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must offer higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents that ultimately returned home from this nursing home. We found that 6.3 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The next area we looked at was long-term care. This facility received an impressive long-term care grade, with a B in this category. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care tend to provide residents with closer supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. After considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 97.97571 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients healthy. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

The last area we assessed is nursing, in which this nursing home received a B. Even though this wound up being its lowest category grade, this is still a quality grade. Our nursing rating assesses a handful of factors, most of which are based on nursing hours. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these metrics as reliable measures of the quality of nursing care provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
