Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

While this facility's overall grade was decent, it really excelled in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A+ for that category, which is one of our best scores. Inspection ratings account for a host of factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better scores in this category usually have few severe deficiencies. This place received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This means that the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies to be an imminent risk to patient safety or health. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This nursing home also received an impressive grade in our long-term care category. We awarded this facility a better than average grade of B in that category. When facilities receive this type of grade in this category it is usually a good sign for patient care and suggests that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses aids. One of the datapoints we considered after nursing hours is vaccinations. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccination is a great way to avoid unnecessary hospitalizations for the elderly population. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility's next best category grade came in the area of nursing. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of B-. When calculating a facility's nursing score, we assess the quantity of hours nurses are with patients and the levels of training of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place surprisingly fared better in some of the quality measures we looked at. It scored well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be measures of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is just as important as the quantity of hours of care offered.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

Turning to our last area, this facility was given a grade of C for short-term care, which is generally a respectable grade. Our short-term care grades are arguably most critical for individuals requiring rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation usually requires additional skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means not just nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this nursing home submitted information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. The last datapoint we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to return home from the facility. We found that just 5 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
