Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

We would like to point out that this facility's inspection grade exceeded its overall score. This facility earned a B+ in this area, which is one of our better grades. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Places with better scores in this category most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This nursing home received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This means that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies to create an immediate risk to patient safety or health. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home also was awarded an impressive short-term care score. Indeed, we awarded them a grade of B+ in this area, which happens to be one of our more favorable scores. Our short-term care grade is generally employed to score a facility's performance with rehabilitation. In order to offer good rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to provide better levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the number of residents that returned home from this nursing home. We found that 5.5 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's next best category was nursing. We awarded it a grade of B- in this category. This is basically a middle of the road grade in this category. There are several datapoints within this grade. Most of the factors relate to nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility surprisingly fared better in some of the quality measures we assessed. It performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these areas to be good measures of the quality of nursing care. In some cases, the quality of nursing care is just as important as the quantity of hours of care offered.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The final category we analyzed is long-term care. This nursing home was awarded a B- for the area. Long-term care grades focus on a facility's assistance with daily living rather than the skilled nursing or healthcare services that are critical to a skilled nursing facility. Once we concluded our assessment of the quantity of nursing care, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination data. Candidly, we were a bit worried that this nursing home vaccinated just 82.71186 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Nevertheless, this place was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
