Facility Inspections
In addition to being an elite nursing home overall, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned an A+. Very few places fared as well in this category. Perhaps the most significant factor we consider in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Facilities with better scores in this category most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This place was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This tells you that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies an imminent risk to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home fared well in the category of long-term care. Indeed, we gave it a grade of A- for that category, which happens to be one of our higher scores. Long-term care ratings in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is very impressive. Pneumonia tragically can be a deadly illness for nursing home residents so we like it when a nursing home does not leave this to chance. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
This facility was awarded its third best category grade in the category of short-term care. We awarded this facility a grade of B- in this area, which is a decent grade. In calculating these short-term care scores, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our objective is to create a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last metric we assessed in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is actually below average.
Nurse Quality
The final area we graded is nursing. This nursing home received an above average nursing score in our assessment, with a C. Even though this is not nearly as strong as a few of its other category grades, this is nevertheless a decent grade in this area. In calculating a nursing home's nursing score, we consider the quantity of hours nurses are with patients as well as the level of licensure of the nurses. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, while this facility didn't rank highly in terms of nursing hours, it fared much better in some of the quality measures we looked at. In terms of the percentage of its patients experiencing pressure ulcers, this facility performed better than the national average.
