Facility Inspections
One of the reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it earned an A+ in our inspections category. This is just about as good as it gets in this very important category. Arguably the most critical factor we consider in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities with better grades in this category most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This place was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered severe. This tells you that CMS didn't deem any of these deficiencies to create an imminent risk to patient safety or health. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home was awarded strong marks in the area of short-term care as well. As a result, we gave it one of our most favorable grades in that category with a area of A-. Our short-term care grades are considered to be more critical for those needing rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation typically requires more skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not just nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. One of this nursing home's strength is that it offers more hours of care from registered nurses to its residents. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of facilities in this area with 61.3 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
Another one of this facility's impressive category grades came in the area of nursing care. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B+. Nursing ratings are largely tied to the facility's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides an impressive 3.9 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, this facility also excelled in several quality measures we assessed. With less than five percent of its residents experiencing pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the country in this category. This is typically an indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Many pressure ulcers can be avoided by offering better nursing care and a policy of moving residents even once per day.
Long-term Care Quality
The final area we rated is this nursing home's worst category. However, even in its weakest link we still awarded it a decent grade of C for long-term care. Our long-term care scores are meaningful for individuals in need of personal care. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 93.20988 percent of its patients. This is slightly less than we expected but still a respectable percentage. Fortunately, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.55 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home.
