Short-term Care Quality
We wanted to point out that this nursing home' short-term care grade outpaced its overall grade. We awarded it a B+ for short-term care. In the category of short-term care, we seek to qualify measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We analyze a facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides a substantially greater volume of physical therapist hours to its residents than the average nursing home. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of facilities in this area with 64.3 percent of its residents returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most facilities.
Facility Inspections
We would also like to point out this nursing home's strong inspection grade. This facility earned a B in this category, which is one of our better grades. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining our inspection grades. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some of these are relatively minor. This place received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This means that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies an immediate risk to resident health or safety. A few minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.
Nurse Quality
This facility's next best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of B-. Our nursing rating is based on numerous subcategories. The most heavily weighted one is the amount of time nurses spend with patients. This nursing home offers extremely high levels of nursing care, averaging 5.2 hours per patient on a daily basis. This is well above average. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home actually excelled in some of these. With less than five percent of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home New Mexico in this category. This is often a accurate measure of quality nursing care.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we rated was long-term care, which is this facility's least impressive area. We awarded this nursing home a D in that area. Nursing homes that do not fare well in this category typically are not as well-staffed and are lagging in some of the areas of routine medical care we looked at. One of the data points we considered on top of nurse's aid hours is vaccines. It doesn't appear that this facility provided vaccination data. Surprisingly, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. This was its best feature in this category.
