Long-term Care Quality
To add to its top-shelf assessments in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a score of A- for our long-term care rating. In a long-term care setting, the primary objective is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. This facility clearly fared well enough in these metrics to earn an encouraging score in this category.
Short-term Care Quality
In addition, this nursing home also received favorable short-term care grades this year. In fact, we awarded it one of our more favorable grades in that area, with a grade of B+. Short-term care ratings are vital for people seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a wide scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. This place is the gold standard in terms of skilled nursing staffing. In fact, it provided about 50% more registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than the typical facility. The last metric we looked at in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
Nurse Quality
In our final area, we awarded this facility a A+ for its nursing score. This completed a very strong profile. Our nursing score assesses quite a few data points, but the primary consideration is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. This place provided 6.7 hours of nursing care per patient each day, which is among the more impressive figures in the country. A significant percentage of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the more skilled levels of nurses. We are really impressed by these statistics. In addition to offering impressive levels of nursing care, this nursing home also excelled in the quality measures we looked at. It performed as well as any nursing home in New Mexico when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
